A few weeks ago, my Sunday school teacher from when I was two years old stopped me in the gym. She recognized me, which is amazing since I am wholly unremarkable. Aside from red hair, there is practically no discerning feature that would prompt this woman to remember me after 33 years.
After we spoke, I started thinking if I remembered anything from that time. While I don’t remember her specifically, there are two Bible songs I remember from that church — “Peter, James and John in the Sailboat” and “Roll the Gospel Chariot Along.”
They were fresh on my mind, because those are the two main songs I sing to my kids about Jesus. Weird, right? Not really. I have two little boys and those are the only church songs I could think of that had vehicles in them for my car-obsessed toddlers.
I had the opportunity to go back and tell her that her legacy lived on after all these years. So, whether you’re a parent looking for something fun to do with your kids this summer or you’re a VBS volunteer hoping to make a difference, your legacy will continue long beyond that week of singing, snacking and flannel-board theater (if that’s even still a thing).
